Island biogeography provides a magnificent lab for scientists to study all sorts of things. For one thing, islands evolve independently from other land masses. The processes work at different rates and there is hardly any gene flow to dilute the effets of mutation. This is a good thing and a bad thing because while this can provide loads of good data, but on the other hand, their very uniqueness makes them especially vulnerable to habitate change and extinction events.
