Katherine disappeared in 1969 in Charleston. She left home on August 24th, 1969, heading for the dock at Ripley Point. She grew up in West Ashley, attended St. Andrew's Parish High School and won awards for her efforts in science. When Katherine discovered the endangered eagle colony on Cole Island, she put in motion the events that would end her life. By revealing the eagles, Katherine would have interfered with the sale of Cole Island to Candela Pharmaceuticals. The money involved was substantial, and represented the resurrection of the blue blooded Claybourne family who were drowning in debt. When Katherine realized that someone had followed her to the isolated lighthouse, she hid her back pack under a grate in the floor where Tory found it many years later and was finally instrumental in bringing Katherine's killers to justice.
