x + 2y = - 18

x + 2y -2y= - 18-2y

x= - 18-2y

4x - 2y = - 22

4( - 18-2y)-2y=-22

-72-8y-2y=-22

-72-10y=-22

-72-10y+72=-22+72

-10y=50

-10y/-10=50/-10

y=-5

x= - 18-2y

x= - 18-2(-5)

x= - 18+10

x=-8
