4x + y = 35

4( - 2y + 14) + y = 35

4( - 2y) (4)( + 14) + y = 35

-8y+56+y=35

-7y+56=35

-7y+56-56=35-56

-7y=-21

-7y/-7=-21/-7

y=3

x = - 2y + 14

x = - 2(3) + 14

x = - 6 + 14=8
