8x-8x+5y=23-8x

5y=23-8x

5y/5=23-8x/5

y=4.6-1.6x

7x + 8y = 31

7x + 8(4.6-1.6x) = 31

7x + 8(4.6) (8)(-1.6x) = 31

7x + 36.8-12.8x= 31

36.8-5.8x= 31

36.8-5.8x-36.8= 31-36.8

-5.8x=-5.8

-5.8x/-5.8=-5.8/-5.8

x=1

y=4.6-1.6x

y=4.6-1.6(1)

y=4.6-1.6=3
