2x + 4y = 22

2x + 4y-4y = 22-4y

2x= 22-4y

2x/2= 22-4y/2

x=11-2y

5x + 4y = 43

5(11-2y) + 4y = 43

5(11) (5)(-2y) + 4y = 43

55-10y+4y=43

55-6y=43

55-6y-55=43-55

-6y=-12

-6y/-6=-12/-6

y=2

x=11-2y

x=11-2(2)

x=11-4=7
