3x + y = 25
3x + y-3x = 25-3x
y= 25-3x
3x + 5y = 17
3x + 5(25-3x) = 17
3x + 5(25) (5)(-3x) = 17
3x+125-15x=17
125-12x=17
125-12x-125=17-125
-12x=-108
-12x/-12=-108/-12
x=9
y= 25-3x
y= 25-3(9)
y= 25-27=-2
