To graph an equation, choose a value for x and solve for y. This will give you one point on the graph. Next choose a different number for x and solve for y. This will give you a second point on the graph. Connect these two points with a straight line. This is your graph of the equation.
For example, choose x = 0. Solving for y gives y = 2. Your first point is (0,2) on the graph. Next choose another x, say 4. Solving for y gives y = 6. So your next point is (4,6) on the graph. Next draw your line between these two points and your equation is graphed.
