x^2 + 2x = 3 x^2+2x+1=3+1 x^2+2x+1=4 x^2 +2x +1=4 (x )(x ) ( +1)( +1) (x+1)(x+1)=4 Check: (x+1)(x+1)=4 (x)(x) (x)(1) (1)(x) (1)(1)=4 x^2 2x 1 =4 x^2+2x+1=4 Therefore:
(x+1)^2=4
(x+1)^2-4=0
