-1x^2 + 3x + 40 = 0

-1(x^2-3x-40)=0

-1(x )(x ) ( -8)( +5)=0

-1(x-8) (x+5) = 0

Solve:

-1(x-8)=0

-1(x) (-1)(-8)=0

-1x+8=0

-1x+8-8=0-8

-1x=-8

-1x/-1=-8/-1

x=8

Solve:

-1(x+5) = 0

-1(x) (-1)(+5) = 0

-1x-5=0

-1x-5+5=0+5

-1x=5

-1x/-1=5/-1

x=-5
