What was the nature of sport in Australia at the end of WW2?

Sports in Australia were were at their peak at the end of WWII. Australia was far removed from the action, and as a result, oragnized sports remained largely intact and even grew. During the post war period, sports participation began rose again and many clubs were formed. In 1945, the world famous yacht race occurred. Australia also hosted its first Olympic Games in 1956 in Melbourne.
