European settlement had a substantial effect on Canada. They changed the environment by hunting and killing an entire population of bison, an situation that depleted the main food source of the First Nations. First Nations also lost their land and were forced onto reserves. They lost their land, and they lost their identity. Europeans also sent the children of the First Nations to residential schools, where they were converted to Christianity and abused. First Nations ceremonies were outlawed, their identity taken away, and they were forbidden any type of political voice. On the who, we can say that European settlement ws a good thing for the Europeans..... not for the First Nations.
