Federal District Courts are trial courts with orginal jurisdiction. They are only federal courts in which trials are held and in which juries may be impaneled.
The U.S. Courts of Appeals have appellate jurisdiction. They are empowered to review the final decisions of district courts. In addition, they have the authority to review and enforce orders of many federal regulatory agencies.
Supreme Court is the highest court in the federal system. Its functions include resolving conflicts among the states, maintaining national supremacy in the law, and insuring uniformity in the interpretation of national laws.
