Thurman Johnson lives on the other side of the mountain with his family. The Johnson family and the Peace family have been feuding for generations about the property divide, and when Tom moves in, Thurman Johnson starts cutting timber on the Peace property. He and his sons also remove all the property spikes, hoping to claim back land they say is theirs. During the battle over the property, Thurman Johnson has a stroke and falls on his axe. He is mortally wounded.
