Thomasina is Eliza's sister. Her parents are Mary and Thomas Ballard. She is described as a shy young girl, who tends to be reclusive because she suffers from accute hayfever, which is accompanied by asthma. She meets her husband, Samuel Travers, after her poem, "To a Bride," is published in a local newspaper. Samuel seeks her out, hoping to set her words to music.
