On a visit to a local bar, Laura and Donna encounter three visitors from Canada who introduce them both to marijuana and who intrigue them enough that they go back to the bar a second time in hopes of re-encountering them ... which they do. On the second visit, the boys take the two girls out into the woods, where they drink, again smoke marijuana, and indulge in sexual exploration. Donna abandons the sex early, but Laura moves into kissing and petting, with the result that her sexual desires and fantasies (already awakened by wearing Maddy's provocative clothing and by BOB) are heightened and take even more of her attention. In short, the three boys from Canada can be seen as profoundly important catalysts and/or triggers for Laura's exploration of the darker, sensual side of herself.
