Popas is the name of the given to the people of the Po region in Tibet. This is the area where David-Neel and Yongden stay throughout the majority of their journey. The men are warned about the Popas by other Tibetans, who claim they are cannibals and robbers, and although, they do run into some thieves during their travels, the men find the Popas to be hospitable people.
