The Idler is another archetypal character for Hill, a character which Hill admits he resembles closely. The Idler is a man who puts off chores, equipment preparation, or pursuing his prey while on a hunting trip, in favor of daydreaming, thinking, or just getting pleasantly lost in the wilderness. This "lost" time is for Hill sometimes more valuable than the time spent doing things, because the mind is free to wander, become youthful, and think upon the mysteries of the universe.
