Hill frequently pays homage to the many hunters' wives who find the strength to tolerate their husbands' eccentric behavior and passion for the wilderness. In a couple of articles, Hill elevates this woman to a mythical status. The ideal hunters' wife is an excellent cook, and has literally hundreds of recipes for how to cook the relatively odd game animals that her husband brings home, like tarp, quail, or rabbit. She is also very handy and knows how to do a wide variety of other tasks valuable to the hunter, such as patch his boots, sew up his ripped jacket, and reload shotgun shells.
