The girl, who is unnamed, appears in the story, The Ultimate Safari. She is ten-years-old, and she has two brothers, one younger and one older. Her father is killed in the Civil war that is ravaging her native country, and her mother disappears. Thus, when the village is attacked, the children are alone. In time, the children are relocated to another village to live with their grandparents

Lack of food and danger lead the grandparents to take the children and leave their village to find a safer place to live. The journey is long and difficult, and over the course of that journey, the girl's grandfather becomes lost.

Eventually, the group arrives at a refugee camp. When asked if she will ever return to her home when the war is over, the girl says she will. She believes that her mother and grandfather will be waiting for her. Despite the hardships, she remains optimistic.
