The Dog-Woman is one of the novel's main characters. She rescues Jordan from the river and raises him as her own child. Loyal to King Charles, she avenges his death against the Puritans. Dog-Woman sees the plague and the fire in London as God's judgment on England for allowing the execution of King Charles.
