The Apostle Paul, also known as Saul of Tarsus, was a man who was both Jewish and a Roman citizen. He zealously persecuted the early Christians until he had a vision in which Jesus Christ appeared to him..... calling him as an apostle to preach the message of forgiveness to the Gentiles. The vision caused Saul to be blinded temporarily, but after he regained his sight, he became a Christian.

Using his Roman name, Paul, he went on to preach the message of Jesus to everyone, even Gentiles. Other Christians were initially suspicious because they know of his relentless persecutions. Paul, however, is eventually embraced by the Christians and acknowledged as one of the apostles. Over the course of his ministry, Paul is shipwrecked, to publicly flogged, stoned, and imprisoned. Richardson considers Paul to be one of the best examples for a Christian missionary.
