Syrinx is an Edenist, daughter of the voidhawk captain Athene, and is affinity linked to her voidhawk partner Oenone. Syrinx and Oenone are conceived together when the voidhawk egg carried by Athene's partner Iasius is bonded with Syrinx's human embryo. Syrinx gestates for several months inside of the young voidhawk Oenone before being separated and integrated into the Edenist community. Syrinx and Oenone are schooled together, each learning the complicated physics and cosmology necessary to safe travel the stars and especially to warp space and facilitate faster than light travel.
