Susannah Dean, like Eddie, has just joined Roland on his quest for the Dark Tower. Susannah is also from New York City, but comes from a different time than Eddie. In a past book in this same series Jack Mort pushed Susannah in front of a train where both of her legs were severed below the knee. For this reason, much of Susannah's traveling must be done either in a wheelchair with someone pushing her or in a sling strapped to someone's back. She has, however, adopted a form of motion that allows her to move quickly over short distances. Susannah is a black lady. She is Eddie's wife. There are several indications toward the end of the novel that Susannah may be pregnant with Eddie's child.
