Susan or Sue Carver was George Washington Carver's foster mother. She and her husband raised George, and she firmly believed that God sent both George and Jim to them because they were childless. Note, it wasn't easy for a white couple to raise two, young black children in a society where their race made them the objects of prejudice and hatred, but she protected them as best she could. Sue is described a a loving, caring person, who loves her boys unconditionally, and she supports George in all of his endeavors.
