Staff Sergeant Jim Wallwork was a pilot in the Glider Pilot Regiment. When he cast off the first glider at 0007 on June 6, 1944, the Allied invasion officially began. Wallwork piloted the #1 glider. He flew by a stop watch, since he couldn't see the river, canal or the bridges. After the war, Wallwork immigrated to British Columbia and became a farmer.
