The Soldier killed by gas appears in Dulce Et Decorum Est. He dies in a horrific way that reminds Owen of what it would be like to drown. After his death, the Soldier's body is thrown into a cart. Owen thinks that if others could have witnessed the Soldier's death, they would change their minds about believing that it is glorious to die for one's country.
