Sini is Annie's older sister. When they go into hiding, Sini is nineteen-years-old. Over the course of the novel, we see Sini take on more and more responsibility for her family, especially in relation to caring for Annie. This new, motherly role causes friction between the girls. Annie somewhat resents her sister's interference...... and Sini resents being cut off from the real world at a time when she should be socializing, going to dances, and meeting young men. In time, Sini is so desperate to escape the limitations of hiding that she gets fake papers and gets work as a maid.
