Sheri Donatti was the woman with whom Broyard shared an apartment in Greewich Village. When he first rented the apartment from Donatti, Broyard didn't realize that they'd be sharing it. Over time, the two became romantically involved. When Broyard ended their relationship, Donatti was vindictive, even going so far as to accuse him of stealing a painting she'd given him as a gift.
