Satan, also known as The Evil One, appears in many of Singer's stories. Satan is both narrator and participant in the stories, Zeidlus the Pope, The Destruction of Kreshev, The Unseen, and The Last Demon. Satan takes many forms in the stories, and he is described as cunning, versatile and unpredictable in every situation. He ambushes otherwise righteous people, causing them to sin, even ruining entire villages.
