The narrative eventually reveals that his money comes from a character called Stan who is ostensibly his roommate but who is in fact, as the narrative hints heavily, his homosexual partner. Here again is another manifestation of the truth versus illusion theme, as is the heavy hint by Ivy that Patch dyes his hair.
