Robert Benedetto Crenshaw is Frannie and Bobby's ten-year-old son. He has lived with violence in his home, and even though his parents never fight in front of him, Frannie knows that he can hear them. Robert wakes up to the sight of new bruises on his mother's body, and he accepts her lies. When Bobby breaks Frannie's nose, however, she can no longer convince Robert that her injuries are caused by accidents. After Frannie takes Robert and leaves town, he is very confused and unhappy..... a condition that leads him to call his father, which in turn, leads to his father discovering their whereabouts and taking Robert away.
