Rob Barclay is Angus McCaskill's best friend. The two journeyed to America together in the hopes they could make better lives for themselves. Rob is described as an emotional man, who is prone to making rash decisions. Over the course of the novel, Rob and Angus grow apart because of differences in opinion. In the end, Rob puts himself in a dangerous situation, which ends in his death by drowning.
