Prospero appears in Shakespeare's, The Tempest. He is the main character in the play, and he exhibits many noble character traits. Betrayed by his younger brother, Antonio, and the king of Naples, Prospero is set adrift in a small boat without provisions and left to perish. Fortunately, a loyal friend secretly provides provisions for Prospero and his small daughter in the boat. He also includes Prospero's books on magic. The boat later sets ashore on an enchanted island.
