Who is Pinch from The Birchbark House and what is their importance?

Pinch is Omakayas' brother. He is portrayed as selfish, indulgent, spoiled, and deceptive. Over the course of the novel, however, he becomes more aware of his identity and purpose, and as a result becomes more sensitive to the people around him.
