Peter Pan was the creation of James Matthew Barrie, Scottish author and playwright. Stories differ on the exact inspiration for Peter Pan but it may have begun when Barrie was six years old. Barrie's older brother, David, died in a skating accident two days before his 14th birthday. The only thing that seemed to console Barrie's mother, Margaret Ogilvy, was the fact that David would forever remain a boy.
