Who is Peter from A Midsummer Evening from The Diary of a Madman, the Government Inspector, and Selected Stories and what is their importance?

Young and hansome, Peter is deeply in love with a girl from his village that he has known all his life. Sadly, the girl's father disapproves of a match behave enough money. Peter then desperately decides to do whatever is necessary to get the money he needs. He gets the money but cannot remember how. A year later, a ghost appears in Peter's house and he suddenly remembers how he got the money just seconds before he turns to ash.
