Pete Jackson is a large, black man who played football in school. However, instead of joining the NFL, Pete choose to continue his education and become a scientist. Pete is a part of Harry's team, using both his computer knowledge and his great strength to help in the project. When the novel opens, Pete is helping to bury the bombs. Later, Pete will help remove some of those same bombs in an effort to give the stranded team a chance at survival. When Harry learns of the attempt on Brian's life, it is Pete he turns to because Pete is the one man Harry trusts above all the others. However, Pete is the first to warn Harry that he cannot trust anyone, even Pete.
