Pericles appears in Shakespeare's, Pericles, Prince of Tyre. He is the prince of Tyre, who is forced to flee his kingdom after it is attacked by Antiochus, the emperor of Greece. While on his way to Tarsus, Pericles is shipwrecked on Pentapolis, where he fights a tournament and wins the daughter of the king, Thaisa, as his wife. When he learns that Antiochus has died, Pericles makes plans to return to Tyre with his pregnant wife. Although we are led to believe that Thaisa dies during childbirth, Thaisa, Pericles, and their daughter, Marina, are happily reunited at the end of the tale.
