Patrick O'Malley is a tough business man, but he is a kind, gentle man who once had a great love affair with the love of his life, his wife. When Cornelia became sick and died, Patrick was devastated, convinced he would never love again. However, when Patrick meets Maggie Bradford, he falls head over heels for her. Patrick is perfect for Maggie, gentle and kind enough to wait for her to overcome her fears, fears caused by her first husband's cruelty, and to learn to trust in him. Eventually Maggie and Patrick move in together and have a little boy. Unfortunately, shortly after the baby's birth, Patrick and Maggie go out on his yacht together, where Patrick has a fatal heart attack and dies. This death becomes a suspicious death when Maggie is accused of Will Shepard's murder, playing in the press in such a way that it appears Maggie is a three time murderer of the men in her life.
