Who is Oedipus from The Uncanny and what is their importance?

Oedipus is the main character and protagonist in Sophocles', Oedipus Rex. Through no fault of his own, Oedipus unwittingly both kills his father and sleeps with his mother. After learning what he has done, he blinds himself by stabbing his eyes.
