Nora Spring is an adult woman seeking to escape an abusive marriage. When she realizes the only was to escape is by leaving the country, she moves to Stockholm, where she meets Sheila Rogers. The two women eventually become friends. Nora even helps raise Carley, who is being passed off as Sheila's daughter. Nora also meets Will's brother Ken, who talks in such glowing terms about Will that Nora decides to look him up when she returns to the United States. When she decides to leave Stockholm, Nora and Sheila trade identities. When Sheila is killed, Ken tells Nora that she—living with Sheila's identity—will be sought by both the killers looking for Ken and the police. When Nora volunteers at Covenant House, she falls in love with Will. Nora then tells Will's mother that Ken is alive. Nora is described as a kind woman, who genuinely loves Will.
