Nikita Gorov is the captain of the submarine, Ilya Pogodin. Gorov lost his son from an illness while he was away on a secret mission, a fact that has filled him with a great deal of guilt since returning home to find his child already dead. Gorov feels that he let his son down by not being with him when he needed him most. When Gorov, on his first mission since his son's death, hears about the trouble the Edgeway team has gotten into, he decides he must rescue them. Gorov hopes that by rescuing the Edgeway scientists he might be able to forgive himself for not helping his son.
