Nickie DeGrumo is a businessman who runs a successful motel business outside of Meriwether. Nickie hires Milo to watch a woman who is supposed to be the mistress of a friend. Milo agrees to take the case, but he hand the case over to his friend Freddy. Over time, Milo realizes that Nickie is behind the increase in illegal drugs in Meriwether, and that he is likely responsible in some part for Raymond's death. Nickie has a heart attack when Milo confronts him with his suspicions.
