Napoleone is the Corsican, who after his arrival in France, becomes a regular guest at the social gatherings Rose attends. He apparently proposes to several women before he is offered the command of the Army of Italy. The catch..... he must marry Rose. Over the course of their engagement, Rose threatens to call off the marriage, prompting Napoleone to declare his love for her. Napoleone calls Rose by the name of Josephine, equating the name with the ideal he senses is possible.
