Myop is a young girl in the story The Flowers. When we first meet her, Myop is exploring the woods, enjoying the nature and the freedom of being on her own. When she comes across a beautiful rose, Myop is reminded that she is not like any other child...... she is a black child in a country where blacks are discriminated against. Myop sees that the flower she is admiring is growing out of the skull of a man who was hung from one of the beautiful trees surrounding her, and suddenly..... the peace of that summer afternoon is gone.
