CIA operative, Mitch Rapp, has been working for the CIA since he was twenty-two. He gained notariety after leading a team of commandos into Iraq. Recently married to NBC While House correspondent Anna Reilly, he is currently on his honeymoon.

As special assistant to the director of Central Intelligence on counter terrorism, Rapp's job is to study the counter terrorism capabilities of the nation and develop plans to streamline operations and improve defenses.

Despite his promise to Anna, Rapp accepts a covert mission to the Philippines to kill General Moro. He then becomes involved in the mission to rescue the Andersons, which results is his being shot. Unfortunately, his injury forces him to explain the situation to his angry wife, who makes him promise that he will not lead any more commando attacks.
