Known by most of his friends as "Mike," he is an undersheriff in the Santa Ynez Police Department, which is actually a private law enforcement agency. Mike is highly respected and trusted but eventually turns traitor to those who believe in him. His actions, though despicable in their results, are prompted by his desire to do the right thing. Mike really believes that helping the Authority shut down a bioscience lab is the right thing. However, he also hates the fact that he has become a traitor to those who trust him. As the book draws to a close, Mike decides to have himself embobbled in order to be available when the bobbles begin bursting, hopefully to save both Jeremy and Della Lu.
