Meillyn Lewis is a very young woman, who gets pregnant out of wedlock and gives birth to an illegitimate child. Meillyn is scorned, rebuked, and shamed by the church deacons. Huw hears the deacons chastise Meillyn and becomes upset by the way they've treated her. He then vocalizes his own beliefs, challenging the deacons, much to the displeasure and embarrassment of his father and Mr. Gruffydd.
