Marissa Brightcloud is an attractive, Italian woman, who has adopted a Native American name. She works and lives in a lumber camp, and she is one of seven committee members that is elected to run the camp. Marissa is described as a strong, warm, and physical woman, who is slender with dark curly hair and large eyes.

Over the course of the novel, Marissa and Weston become romantically involved, and when he makes references to going back to the city she becomes violent. In the end, Marissa refuses to leave Ecotopia, and Weston makes the decision to remain with her rather than return home.
